About

ISAR (Institute for Social Action and Research) is an NGO based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, dedicated to social upliftment. The journey of ISAR began in the aftermath of the unfortunate 1990 Communal riots in Ahmedabad, a city in western state of Gujarat in India. Certain areas witnessed a nightmare, with 23 houses completely burnt, 73 people injured, and 11 lives lost. During the relief and rehabilitation efforts, the need for a long-term commitment to social development became apparent, leading to the establishment of ISAR.

ISAR firmly believes that fostering a scientific attitude among individuals, particularly women and children, can facilitate the transformation of traditional society into a modern one. To further advance these activities on an institutional level, it was crucial to register our organization under the Trust Act. In 1991, ISAR was formally registered as a Trust. Our organization's approach is characterized by strong community linkages and action-based programs, which have propelled ISAR to the status of a people's movement rather than confining itself to being a strictly rule-bound organization.

We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
